Wheaton Lodge History
Over the last century and a half, Wheaton
Lodge has been part of quite a bit of history.
There
are those who believe Wheaton Lodge was instrumental in helping the
city of Wheaton
become the county seat. A number of well known men from the
area
have been members over the years. Lieutenant Marcellus Jones,
a
Past Master of our Lodge, is reputed to have fired the first shot at
the Battle of Gettysburg. And there’s the determination of
the
members who kept the Lodge going even after a fire nearly destroyed the
building in 1949.
As 2008 is our 150th anniversary year, please come back to this page often as it will be expanded and updated as our Historical Committee unearths additional information, new and old.
