From the EAST

Brethren,

Our new year has started and one of the goals I feel we should have for our Lodge is to get ourselves back out into the community.  Small steps first, last year a few of the Brothers were at the Lodge giving out candy during the Wheaton’s Halloween walk. I think this is a good start for us. Maybe this year we can get more of us to join in and make it a good time for not only the kids of the community but for ourselves as well. That would be how we start of getting out in the community, I would like to see if there is something we can do for the Christmas Parade, maybe have coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, for people, show off our new anteroom if it is done.  Down the road there is the Fourth of July Parade, the Taste of Wheaton, we have many opportunities where we can get involved with the community. Let’s have some fun while we’re at it. If any of you have ideas please feel free to share them in the Lodge, it is a group effort here.
Our Brothers at Glen Ellyn Lodge would like to join us for Halloween this year. Which brings me to another goal that I think we should have… Interacting with other Lodges.  We can do this by making visits to their Lodges, attending a meeting to see how they do things.  Euclid in Naperville, Elmhurst/Green Dragon, West Chicago, Hesperia, Downers Grove , are just a few local lodges we can visit.  Again this can build camaraderie within our own Lodge, a way to learn and have some fun to strengthen our own bonds.

Brethren,

It is my honor to be your Worshipful Master for the upcoming year, and I am looking forward to working with all of you in improving our Lodge.  There are a lot of things happening with the Lodge, the work being done in the anteroom we hope to have finished by October and I am sure we all will be impressed and pleased with the finished product.  We are also working on the outside of the building to improve its look to the public, and make it a Lodge we all can be proud of.
We have a lot of work to accomplish this year, my main focus is in bringing our Lodge back to prominence, work that my predecessors had started previously, and a main objective is to bring back Brothers that have not been to Lodge for a while.  I also would like to get us more involved in the community, be part of events such as the Christmas Parade, Taste of Wheaton, and the Fourth of July Parade.  I also want to get our newer members raised to the Degree of Master Mason, we have some Fellowcrafts and Entered Apprentices who will be great assets to our Lodge, and we owe them much already for the work they been doing.
I also want to make our meetings more interesting, more informative, more fun.  I would like to spend a little time each meeting talking about something Masonic, be it our history or Masonic history, or just a simple conversation on a topic of anyone’s choosing.  If anyone has a  suggestion please let me know, the more ideas the better.
No single person makes a Lodge, this is our Lodge and I will not take credit for the good things that are done during this year, that belongs to everyone.  We are all Brothers, we are all equal here, from our oldest members to our newest and we all share in the glory and the pitfalls we experience.  We have a lot of work to do as we all know, we can do it but only together, everyone of us is needed and we all need to appreciate each other like Brothers should.

Brethren,
Since the last message we had some special events. I’m happy to say that we passed our official DDGM visit with Bro. Don Busby giving us some great info regarding Masonry in Illinois.

Yesterday, March 30th, Bros. Senior and Junior Warden, along with Bro. Treasurer accompanied me to the reception of our Most Worshipful Grand Master in the Scottish Rite. Fellowship was great, live music entertained us, and all you can eat prime rib and pork loins filled our bellies to capacity.

We are in the process of finalizing the bowling fund raiser with a date still TBA. A couple of second degrees will be scheduled in the near future. Please make arrangements attend this special day for the candidates.

Brethren,
It’s great to be back in Lodge. The only thing I can wish for now is to see YOU there. We all know Wheaton Lodge has a great track record of gaining new membership, although attendance by current members also has its history of diminishing in numbers. We have to keep involvement  a priority to induce new members to be involved themselves. Wheaton Lodge has to stick together or future generations might struggle to keep the Lodge afloat. It all refers back to the old saying “Do as I do, not do as I say”.
The official DDGM visit is March 11, 2014 during our Stated Meeting. Practices are scheduled up to the date of visit. Dinner will be served an hour before the Stated Meeting so please RSVP to the Junior Warden.
A couple Entered Apprentices will soon be ready to be passed to Fellowcraft. Their degree dates will be posted once known.

Brethren,
We are back in business after our quick hiatus in darkness from the holidays. Some officers have been shifted around and have been practicing their new chairs. It would be great to get some of the “veterans” in Lodge and in practice days to give their advice.
Our bowling fund raiser is still in the works and will have an up date soon.
The official DDGM visit is also coming up with a final date to be determined.
Keep warm in this brutal Chicago weather we are having.
See you guys soon!

December 13, 2013

Brethren,
With another year behind us and the holidays upon us, on behalf of the officers of Wheaton Lodge I would like to wish everyone the very best.
I would like to thank those who donated to the Toys for Tots drive. Also to those who made a donation to the Washington, IL relief effort.
Our annual poinsettia delivery will be tomorrow on December 14th. This is one of favorite events I usually take part but unfortunately will not be able to this year. I hope to be back in Lodge by February when I’m cleared to put weight back on my leg.
Enjoy the holidays and check back for future events.

November 11, 2013

Brethren,
With the holidays around the corner, our great endeavor of charity is upon us. Please make your efforts to support our events and join the fun. The Lodge will be having a Thanksgiving dinner before the second Stated meeting of November. We will need volunteers for Bell Ringers for the Salvation Army. Donate to the Toys For Tots at our drop box in the lodge. The Lodge is also working on a Bowling fund raiser for our scholarship fund. This event is TBA with plans for it to occur in January.
The Lodge needs your help with all our activities. We are stronger in numbers and the Lodge is only as strong as its members. I am calling upon You to support and guide your Lodge to venture into triumph.
Unfortunately, I will be incapacitated for at least a month. As mentioned in our latest Trestle Board, I have a tibial plateau fracture. It is more serious than a broken leg due to the fracture affecting the knee. I am to keep off the leg until after surgery and then physical therapy. I leave you in good hands with Bro. Junior and Senior Warden along with the other officers of the Lodge.
Any concerns, comments, or suggestions please email frank.paras@wheatonlodge269.org.
